The fishing the past month has been good. We have had some unseasonable rains which has been a bit of a challenge at times, but overall it will make for a good few months ahead. Spotted mackerel have been a great target species with plenty about making for some great fishing on lure and fly.
Other species we have been targeting have been golden trevally, queenfish, longtail tuna, mac tuna and black marlin.
This year's black marlin run is now almost done with some good sessions on the blacks. The water temps did vary with the rain and constant south easterly's making for some patchy fishing. Both lure and fly anglers enjoyed success on the blacks with Murray,Pete and myself enjoying the challenge of landing one of the worlds most sort after billfish.
A few snapper have also been active we often get a little run of snapper during summer as they have a small spawning run around the same time as their southern cousins. Sharks seem to love snapper, beating the sharks is the main challenge when find a school of them.
Fly anglers have not missed out with flats species like golden trevally, bay bastards and queenfish about.Tageting black marlin on fly was very popular with guests, we landed quite a few this season on fly with anglers travelling as far as Florida, USA to target them which has been a ton of fun for guides and guests alike.
Over all the summer season so far has been a good one and we look forward to the coming months as we see more tuna move into the bay, with the longtail tuna migration beginning in February.
