We’ll start with the fairway buoy this week. Reports are coming in of yellowtail king in thick schools getting caught on chrome lures. The biggest fish caught was around 17kg - a great fish and a great fight. Tailor are also in numbers around that area.

Gatakers Bay, as well as area’s north to Toogoom, are still producing winter whiting. The better fish seem to be further out. Berley up and use those Gulp Plastic Worms to get results. School mackerel and small tailor are feeding on the winteries and can be trolled up on the edge of the schools of whiting.

Flathead are getting caught around Moon Creek and the beaches south of there by walking the beaches and sight casting with soft plastics. This is great fun and also good exercise, so no excuse!

Grass sweetlip are getting caught at the Channel Hole just off the tip of Little Woody, and the snapper, although still pan size, are getting caught on the Arti. A monster snapper of 8.5kg was caught in close last week, so they are around also.

The bigger snapper seem to be out wider, with the Six-Mile and Rooneys being the pick of the spots at the moment.

Please Note: Waters Closed to all forms of Fishing on Fraser Island – The Eastern Foreshore waters and waters within 400m out to sea from the eastern shore at low water, between 400m north of Waddy Point and 400 m South of Indian Head. Closed from midday 1st August to midday 30th September every year (fin fish only).

The weather has been absolutely spectacular and by all reports so has the fishing. There is no weed to speak of on any of the beaches and the travel is exceptional.

All the usual suspects, tailor, whiting, dart and flathead, have been of great size and in good numbers. The hot spots this week are the Cathedrals and also gutters just north of there.
