Report Thur 10th Aug 06

It’s going to be short and sweet this week, as a combination of wind and big tides brings the good fishing to a grinding halt. Those die hard whiting fishermen are still catching reasonable feeds off Gatakers Bay and north towards Toogoom area. There are still tailor and small school mackerel around the edges of the schools. Most fishos report that it’s been a great season for the winteries this year; hopefully it will stay as good for the foreseeable future.

If the weather comes good the tides are great for the summer whiting off the beaches, particularly around Shelley Beach, as well as for bream off the rock wall at the Marina and off the rocks at River Heads.

If you are really keen, the grass sweetlip would be worth a try around the Channel Hole and the Artificial Reef. You may pick up a good snapper or two as well.

FRASER ISLAND
Please Note:
Waters Closed to all forms of Fishing on Fraser Island – The Eastern Foreshore waters and waters within 400m out to sea from the eastern shore at low water, between 400m north of Waddy Point and 400 m South of Indian Head. Closed from midday 1st August to midday 30th September every year (fin fish only).

This week’s report comes from the Feral Kiwi, who spent a few days over the Eastern Beach dodging the rogue waves and howling winds. Before the big swells there were excellent catches of tailor, dart and whiting from Yidney Rocks north, however with the advent of the wind and king tides the dreaded weed has yet again made an appearance. If conditions return to normal, catches again should be brilliant.
