Report Thur 24th Aug 06

Soft plastics are really firing for the flathead and snapper at the moment. Dave really hit the jackpot earlier in the week with some great flathead caught on Berkley Powerbaits, as well as the Gulps. Around the Moon Point area would be a great start, then work your way south down the beaches. Around the south end of the Arti as well as the channel hole are the places for the snapper.

Summer whiting have been going very well off the beaches. Live yabbies has been the bait catching the quality fish. Shelley Beach is one of the hot spots, although anywhere along the foreshore is worth a go at the moment.

Dave also took a trip up to Monduran mid week and bagged himself a barra. According to the Anglers Almanac the prime fishing time was 10am and that was exactly the time he hooked up. Unfortunately they shut down just after that with the water temp rising rapidly, turning the barra off. Just goes to show that little yellow book is good value!

Please Note: Waters Closes to all forms of Fishing on Fraser Island – The Eastern Foreshore waters and waters within 400m out to sea from the eastern shore at low water, between 400m north of Waddy Point and 400 m South of Indian Head. Closed from midday 1st August to midday 30th September every year (fin fish only).

This week’s report comes from Jim who is enjoying a week on the island soaking up the sand, surf and sun.

There are good quality whiting and tailor along most of the gutters at the moment. Absolutely no weed to speak of and the weather is near perfect.

It’s about time Jim was able to get everything together and bag a few good fish this week!
