The weather has certainly been very unpredictable this week with predicted winds not getting up till later on in the day, making an early morning fishing session a possibility. School mackerel have drifted back into the bay with anglers catching good-sized specimens around NU2 beacon and also around the top end of Woody Island.

Good summer whiting are still getting caught around the Shelley Beach area, as well as the first channel of the pier. Winter whiting have been quiet this week. Anglers are only just managing a feed before the winds get too serious. The usual haunts – Gatakers Bay and north up to O’regans Creek are still the best fishing grounds.

Please Note: Waters Closes to all forms of Fishing on Fraser Island – The Eastern Foreshore waters and waters within 400m out to sea from the eastern shore at low water, between 400m north of Waddy Point and 400 m South of Indian Head. Closed from midday 1st August to midday 30th September every year (fin fish only).

Reports from the island are a little disappointing this week. The northerly winds have pushed the weed into most of the productive gutters along the beach, deterring a lot of anglers.

If you’re still keen there are some small gutters around Nagala, Yidney and Pyungan rocks producing big greenback tailor at night, with the smaller chopper tailor biting during the day.
