Report Thur 9th Nov 06

Post by Brad » Sat Nov 11, 2006 2:02 am

On the days you can get out fishing you should be able to bag yourself a feed. That’s the report from most of the anglers trying their luck out in the bay this week.

The mackerel are still around the beacons and around Moon Point, heading up to Coongul Creek. Grass sweetlip and the odd small snapper and cod are getting caught around the Artificial Reef.

The big news is the small black marlin are swarming in Platypus Bay - anywhere from the six mile off Arch Cliffs through to Wathumba and north of there. Most are getting caught on skirts, and we have a large range available in our store. Williamson lures have developed very realistic soft plastic skip jacks and bonito that are also producing hookups.

We must stress that although these fish are absolutely awesome to catch, it’s best to take a photo, and return them to the sea. We would love to see any pictures of blacks taken around Hervey Bay.

Fishing on the island is fairly slow at the moment, and there aren’t too many people around, so if you’re after a secluded beachfront camp now is the time to go! There is quite a bit of weed on the beach. It did clear earlier in the week but has returned with a vengeance! In the clearer gutters, around Indian Head, the whiting and dart have been co- operating with the tailor taking baits around Waddy Point.

The rain has improved the tracks a little, although many of the tracks are still full of deep holes created by bogged down 4wd’s. Caution is still advised when travelling.
