The wind certainly is not helping this week, but it gives the fish a rest so they will certainly be on the chew come good weather.

If you can get out try Gatakers Bay for a mixed bag at the moment. Reports of good sized blackall, cod and the odd coral trout are coming in.

The mackerel are out and about and if you are land based the pier is a great spot to try. Broad barred mackerel and mack tuna are getting caught off the end of the pier
on spoons, and when that isn’t productive just jig a few live herring and put them out.

The rivers and creeks are still producing great sized mud crabs that are full of meat. Make sure your pots are legal and are well named both on the pot and on the
float. You are allowed four pots per person.

Well reports from the island haven’t been any better than fishing in the bay. Wind and rain have put a stop to all fishing along the beaches, although the good news is the rain will firm up all tracks.

There was a substantial amount of weed around Boxing Day, but the wind and the rain have cleared all that away. So when the weather does improve we’ll be back into good
catches in all the usual spots.

Try for dart, flathead and whiting in the gutters early morning and late afternoon. The low tide gutters along the beaches should give up some decent whiting.
