Hervey Bay
Strong winds forecast for the weekend so fishingwill be restricted to the foreshore beaches, Gatakers Bayand the rivers and creeks. Smaller tides (neap tides) this weekend can slowup the catch rate as well but the fish are there if you put in the time andpreparation. Very good catches reported to the team at Tackle World throughout the week. Try Sunday morning early high tide and fishthe run out would be the pick of the tides to fish this weekend. Reports this week of big snapper at the Arty, Sammie’sand 6 mile reefs. Try live baits for the bigger knobbies.Blackall and sweetlip at night on the Arty as well as the shallow reefsaround Point Vernon. Big spanish mackerel reported throughout the bay.Release these big Spanish as these fish can carry ciguatera. School mackerel at 6 mile reef, PointVernon, the Fairway Buoy and also the Pier. Big cobia reported
around the bayat the moment. Again these bigger fish can carry ciguatera. The cobia are schooling up at the Fairway Buoy and the NU2beacon. Big live baits drifted back towards the beacons is proving successfulon these great sports fish. A word of warning though, these fish go berserkwhen boated so be prepared.

Winter whiting have schooled up at Gatakers bay,the bottom of Big woody, Round Island and south of theBoat harbor rock wall. The bigger fish up to 28cm’s are schooling down thebottom of Woody. Look for the cluster of boats or drift until you locate yourown school. Live yabbies and strips of squid as bait is working very well. You can improve your catch rate by incorporating a burley trail. We have a largeselection of burley pellets, tuna oils, burley dispenses and we will give you advice on choosing the right burley for your type fishing. The pier is still alive with bait fish at themoment. This is still attracting school mackerel and some big broad barmackerel. A small run of prawns was reported this week. This gives me some confidence that they are about to move on the next spring tide, fingers crossed.

Tusk fish, good snapper, sweetlip and hussar also good schools of spotty mackerel out wide. Thecurrent 15 miles off is weak so this long weekend is ideal conditions to fishoutside.

Freshwater Report.
Lenthalls has fished reasonablythis past week for big bass up to 50cm. Anglers targeting barra have reportedcatches of bass more so than barra hitting their large barra lures. This is agood indication that these fish are hungry and the water temp is droppingslightly. Good for the bass fisho but the barra need to eat sometime oranother. Try later in the morning as the shallow bays warm up. Ranger services have commencedon the dam. They are there to provideinformation concerning the restrictions to motor size and speed limits on thedam and he is not an employee of the fisheries however we do ask that all people fishing observe all
fisheries regulations.
