Hervey Bay
Reports have been very quiet this week due to the amount of dirty water in the rivers, creeks and lower bay. After the large amount of rain we received the fresh has been working its way out of the rivers and creeks which has pushed a lot of fish out further in search of clearer water. However some quality bream are being caught around the creek mouths on prawns, yabbies and strip baits. Mud crabs are another good target so don’t forget the crab pots. The Urangan Pier has also been producing large bream. Try fishing the top of the tide when the water is at its clearest. Apart from that it’s been pretty quiet with the odd the odd shark and plenty of catfish being caught.

Weather permitting there’s been good numbers of longtail tuna up the island. Some anglers are landing up to a dozen fish in a session on poppers, soft plastics and metal slugs. The standout lures have been Cotton Cordell Pencil Poppers, 5in Snapbacks and Raiders. Again search for areas with clear water and good showings of bait. Golden trevally will be another option over the reefs on soft plastics and spoons. Around the top of the tide, the inshore reefs should produce sweetlip, blackall and cod. Fresh bait will be your best bet, however soft plastics fished along the edges of the dirty water lines have been producing some nice fish. The annual Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition is on the 11-14 of March. Good luck
to any anglers competing, it should be good fun with plenty of prizes up for grabs.

Jay Currie and his wife Nichole returned for a day to chase longtails in the bay, the couple caught 4 and lost 2. The highlight was when Jay sight cast, hooked then released this great cobia on the flats!
