Weekly Report 6 Aug 10

Post by Brad » Fri Aug 06, 2010 7:40 am

Winter whiting catches are still consistant with schools of fish present south of the harbour, out the front of Gataker's Bay, Dundowran and Toogoom. Yabbies, worms and squid have been working best; with Berkley Gulp worms being a good alternative. Flathead have been a good target, with soft plastics being the most consistant way of catching them. Paddle tails like Squidgy fish and Snapbacks have been producing plenty of quality fish. Bouncing metal blades and vibe lures over the bottom has also been effective along with casting and trolling hardbodys.

Those chasing a feed of school mackerel or tailor, good numbers can be found on the Arch Cliffs 6 Mile, around River Heads, the Burrum River and Ungowa. A variety of methods have been working including: spinning with metal blades, trolling hardbody lures and barra spoons, jigging plastics and live baiting. Again, keep an eye on sizes as there are plenty of small fish in the schools. Those chasing a feed of snapper can try the Arti, Burrum 8 and 12 Mile, 25 Fathom Hole and the gutters. Fresh pike, winter whiting, herring, yakka and squid have been the best baits. Soft plastics and Lucanus jigs continue to produce fish, so drop in and see the boys at Fisherman's Corner to see what's been working best. Reports from Fraser have consisted of quality tailor from Eli Creek to Indian Head, with good gutters present along the beach. Dart can be found all along the beach with the odd flathead also turning up.
