Weekly Report 29 Oct 10

Post by Brad » Fri Oct 29, 2010 8:09 am

This week has seen some good weather allowing plenty of boaties to hit the water. Lighter winds are forecast for the weekend with nothing over 10-15 knots, hopefully it will stay this way. Most of the fresh is over in the creeks, which should shape up for the weekend. A few reports of jacks, threadfin, queenfish and the odd barra in the Mary and Susan. With the recent rain there has been some prawn around, mostly smaller but ideal live bait. A few muddies are on the move down the straits and on Fraser.

Bonito are everywhere, along with mack tuna working the surface. These fish can be found any where the bait is and provide good sport, live herring have been the best option for bait. School and broad-bar mackerel around the bait grounds, Burrum eight mile and nu2 beacon, the good run at Gatakers seems to have slowed. Most fish have been taken on Flasha and Maniac spoons, or live herring. The shallow reefs are producing some good cod, grass sweetlip, blackall and a few trout. Live pike the best bait for cod or trout, and flesh baits or squid for grassys or blackall. A few queenies and goldys have been taking live baits on the bottom.

The pier has been fishing well for school and broad-bar mackerel, with a few mack tuna and golden trevaly as well. Most mackerel have been taken on 35g or 50g Flasha spoons or live herring cast un-weighted. For the latest on what's biting and for all the gear and tips on how to catch them, drop in and see the guys at Fishermans Corner.
