Weekly Report 5 May 14

The weather is not looking good for out wide this weekend so up the creek looks the best. Try the Mary, Burrum and the Susan rivers for threadfin salmon, grunter and barra, also it would be a good idea to put the cast net in and try the feeder creeks for prawns on the run out tide. Good whiting are still around up the straights and around the flats from Urangan to River Heads. Around the jetty at Kingfisher there have been reports of a few barra taken on live bait, cast net under the jetty for herring then use them live and float them back . There have been flathead taken from Point Vernon to the Urangan pier and the flats to River Heads.

The fairway buoy has school mackerel and they have been taking small metal lures left to sink to the bottom then cranked up at speed. A few days ago it was forecasted 10 to 15 knot winds so we went out to the gutters, it turned into 20 to 25 knots but we managed to catch some nice fish including reds, sweet lip, snapper, mangrove jack and parrot. A lot of chinaman and sucker fish. I used two rods one with just bait and the other with a pe tackle fly and bait, it out fished all the other rods by far so give them a go the colour is called hussar glow but others may work just as good.
