Mackerel are around throughout the bay between Big Woody and Kingfisher, also Moon Point and the NU2 beacon. Broad barred and school mackerel are the main species. Spinning 50gm Flasha lures and a trolled Producer should come up trumps.

This is the cross over period from summer species to winter species in fish, so the reef fish should be hungry just before they move on. The snapper are coming on in good size, while sweetlip, cod and blackall are all around the wrecks.

The beaches see the last of the summer whiting. We should be seeing the winter whiting turning up shortly. There have been reports of them here already, although they are out deep and are not schooling up at the moment.
