The past week we have seen some glamour weather, I doubt this run of weather will last much longer but fingers crossed it will. Reports have been good with some great fish on offer from all parts of the bay.

The Burrum system turned up some great whiting over the new moon period; good specimens to 40 cm were reported along with some big bream. Tarpon and big flathead have been taken in the mid reaches of the river with soft plastics working well. Out the front winter whiting are on offer with some flathead between the ramps. A look out at Burrm 8mile will be a great option for a snapper or golden trevally.

Wide Grounds
The wide grounds from the southern gutters and beyond have been a little tough over the past week with the moon tides. This week will be a better option if weather allows with tides more suited for out there. Live baits have been working the best on coral trout with fresh baits geting some good mixed reef fish like sweetlip, hussar and parrot.

Platypus Bay
Snapper have been a little hit and miss in Platypus Bay at present, the wider grounds owards Rooney’s have been producing the better fish with soft plastics, soft vibes, jigs and baits all working. Grunter, blackall, parrot, cobia and trevally have also been reported.

Urangan Pier
The Pier has seen some great land based fishing for Jew over recent weeks, fishing at night with live pike has been effective and fish to 10 kg have been coming in. Flathead, longtail tuna and golden trevally have also been reported. If you are after a feed of bream fishing the first channel at night has produced some nice specimens, lightly weighted baits close to the pylons has been working a treat.

Local Reefs
The artificial reef has had reports of snapper, blackall, golden trevally and jew this week, live baits again have been the key to success. Further in the straits squid can be found on the weed beds, rocky outcrops and coffee rock along the island. Fishing the ledges further down the straits have produced a few nice Jew with the odd broad bar mackerel turning up along with small giant trevally and tailor. Diver whiting can be found near the Nu2 beacon and south of Round Island, live blood worms have been getting the best results.
