Report Fri 5th May

Post by Brad » Sat May 06, 2006 7:50 am

Well there are some good and bad things to report this month
• The Great Sandy Marine Park
The Zonings for the park have been released and as yet we have not seen the detail but it appears to be little improvement on the draft of over 12 months ago. The big deal is that netting is still permitted in the straits and as a concession to Recreational Fishers they have allowed the use of three lines instead of one. The QPWS have a nightmare on their hands when it comes to enforcing the conditions in the zones. To say the least it will be most confusing for the average angler and tourist. Recreational anglers have been duded and we now have a park that demonstrates that the intent of the Marine Park Act has been ignored so as to suit one particular section of the community.
• Boat Ramps
We are delighted that at long last we have a commitment from the Hervey Bay City Council to improve the facilities for boaties at Burrum Heads and Point Vernon.
At Burrum Heads a new ramp and car park will be developed around a basin to be created in Lions Park. This will mean that in the long term Burrum Heads will have an all tide, all weather, safe boating facility.
Point Vernon will also be developed and the existing channel and boat ramp [the private one ] adjacent to the restaurant will be taken over by Qld Transport and will become a free public facility. Council will need to develop the car parking facilities.
Toogoom is the only other major facility needing Council’s attention and we are working on this one to find parking for 45 car/trailer units.
• Kids Adventure Fishing Days
We have been advised that we have been allocated funding for two clinics to be held in November and December later this year.
• Sunfish Fraser Coast Committee
We are in need of new faces on the Management Committee for 2006/7 as a number of members have either left town or do not wish to serve another term. If you have a couple of hours spare in the month we would welcome your input as there are some major issues we will be facing this year regarding Fisheries Management

Harry Railz was proud of his catch – this snapper, almost the size of himself, was caught with no help from dad, Mike. Dad reckons he’ll have to harness Harry into the boat if he keeps catching fish this size. Well done mate. It’s a great catch.
Fred Jobson with a nice queenie.
