Report 22/1/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 22, 2016 2:55 pm

Local boaties have enjoyed the great conditions and have headed to all corners of the Bay and strait looking for a feed.

Local reefs
The local reefs have been excellent of late with plenty of blue parrot being reported coming off both the deep and shallow reefs.
Sweetlip can be found around Boags hole, the arty, Moon Ledge and the top of Big Woody.
If you are chasing sweetlip squid has been the best bait of late due to the run of pencil squid on the reefs.
Blackall, cod and golden trevally have been other captures on the reefs.

Platypus Bay
Platypus Bay continues to be hard going for most that venture that way, longtail tuna can be found up there and are taking soft plastics, slugs and stick baits.
Mac tuna can be found toward Rooney's Point with the odd small patch of spotty mackerel about.
Fishing the bottom has been a waste of time with sharks stealing your prize most times.

Wide Grounds
Over Breaksea Spit red throat, dolphin fish, coronation trout, pearl perch and Spanish mackerel have been reported.
Last week saw a few crews head out due to very little swell and no wind.
Inside, the southern gutters have been fishing well for coral trout, sweetlip, hussar and a few parrot but again the sharks have been terrible.

Urangan Pier
Off the Urangan Pier, Spanish mackerel, school mackerel and golden trevally have been reported from the second channel.
Flathead can be found in close around the pylons along with the odd bream.
Whiting were good over the big tides last week.
This week, fishing at night will see better results.
