What a start to 2016! We jumped straight out of the blocks with some great weather and fishing to kick of the year. Our guests enjoyed some great sport fishing with our pelagics and bottom dwellers all firing, some great variety on offer at present.

Longtails have begun their migration into the bay and have been taken on soft plastics, stick baits and metal lures. Spotted mackerel and loads of mac tuna have also been in the mix. Some great micro jigging action has also been had with guests enjoying great sessions on a range of species

We also had an exciting capture of a free swimming black marlin on fly, the angler was Paul Taylor from Brisbane and we even managed to catch the hook-up on my phone. We were stalking a golden trevally at the time then something caught my eye about a full cast away, as we approached we found a late season black marlin cruising the flats. Paul made the cast and the rest is history. Paul joins the group of a handful of anglers to land a sight casted free swimming marlin on the flats on a fly rod. Plenty have now been caught teased on the flats but very few have been caught casted to without any teasing on a fly rod.

Other cool captures were Bryce’s big longtail, some nice sweetlip and Blake's huge cobia taken on a 20 lb spin outfit, some mega goldens and Nicks big GT.
We are looking forward to a big February with the arrival of more longtail tuna their will be some exciting fishing ahead along with the usual trevally species, queenfish, various mackerel species and more!
