Report Thur 6th July 07

Post by Brad » Fri Jul 07, 2006 6:08 am

The weather was perfect for fishing on the weekend and boaties reaped the rewards with a mixed bag of fish getting caught. A lot of people took our advice and headed out further than usual, with mixed reports coming from out at the gutters. Legal sized red emperor, snapper and parrot were the main species caught. A lot of reports tell us the pearl perch and coral trout were scarce though.

The Arti has still been doing well with pan sized snapper and good blackall keeping fishos happy. The run was a little crazy over the past week. The tops and bottoms of the tide were when most fish were caught.

Your own newsletter writer took the young son down to O’reagans for a play with soft plastics and did quite well on the flathead. While looking out to sea I saw at least 60 boats about a kilometre out from the mouth, so the winter whiting are still out there in numbers. There are some small school mackerel and tailor amongst the schools as well.

Fishing has become quieter due to the wet weather around the island lately but the girls at the retreat tell us that tailor can be found in the gutters near high tide from Pyungan Rocks through to Waddy Point.

Whiting are average sized but in plentiful quantities at the moment and the beach worms are the go for bait.

Beach travel is still great with nice flat tracks along most of the beach. Inland tracks are starting to dry out and get loose so a little caution is needed.
