Another great month for Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing with guests enjoying some first-class fishing. Cobia, longtail tuna, golden trevally, queenfish, mac tuna, various mackerel and trevally species plus more were caught on our day charters along with extended mother shipping trips. We have had three guides out regularly during April with good friend and long time Hervey Bay guide Peter Fry, helping Murray and Myself out using our 5.5 galeforce Gotcha.

John With a Solid Cobia from early April.

When conditions didn't suit the bay we made the most of our options in the creeks and targeted Barramundi. The Barra have responded well to soft plastics and hard bodied lures.

Mark with a solid Barra.

We saw a bumper longtail season this year with numbers slowly tapering off during April. May we will see a few longtails about with bigger models starting to come through. During the cooler months the size of the longtails are better than average with plenty of 10 kg plus models around. While fishing deep for snapper we often pick up longtail tuna which makes things interesting on a light snapper combo.

Zane with a solid Longtail from mid April.

Snapper begin to migrate into the bay during May, we see yakka schools move in and water temperatures slowly drop away to the low 20’s. All our usual species will also be on offer during May with our beautiful winter Glass outs starting to become more frequent.

The water temps are dropping, it's that time of year!
