Report Thur 13th July 06

Well this week has certainly been absolutely perfect for boating and by all reports some great fish were caught. This weekend looks like the end of the good weather with the northeast winds picking up early Saturday morning.

Nathan, Brock and Josh here from Tackleworld had a tough time on Monday, although their hard work did pay off with snapper on soft plastics around the Artificial Reef. They also had some fun with flathead at Moon Creek.

River Heads seems to be the place to head. Jewfish on live bait are giving anglers a good fight, and as a bonus they are picking up good sized bream. With the wind picking up it would be an ideal place to wet a line.

Reports from Rooneys indicate catches of good snapper. One angler bagged out with only a couple of hours fishing. Scarlets are also getting caught, although most of the fish are just legal or under.

The winter whiting are still out the front of Dundowran and south down to Gatakers, although the schools have thinned out somewhat. Tailor and small mackerel can be found around the edges of the schools. Trolling or spinning a chrome slug would be the best way to catch a feed.

Gayle from the Retreat tells us that there are loads of tailor getting caught at the moment. Everyone is pleased with their catches.

Whiting are plentiful and of good size. The best spots are south of Happy Valley through to Rainbow Gorge. Early morning and late afternoons are proving to be the best times for the better quality fish. Bream are also on the bite in these areas.
