Well that persisting wind still hangs around and the fish seem to have gone on holidays! The boys had a session out on the water with soft plastics earlier in the week on the Artificial Reef, with little success. The big snapper just don’t seem to be there at the moment, but the smaller ones certainly are. Grass sweetlip came to the party with a few quality fish caught. Leather jackets are around as well and they are a particularly good table fish.

The winter whiting are in very small schools at the moment out from Gatakers Bay. Reports coming in tell us they are timid and not biting like they usually do, but most fishos are still managing a feed. Gulp Worms in the blood red colour and also the natural are definitely the go. One fisherman managed 160 whiting off two worms! He also bagged 400 whiting off the one packet! Not a bad deal when you think the pack only costs $9.99.

Tailor are getting caught off River Heads at the moment, as well as some good sized bream and there are also some schools of winteries heading down that way as well.

Let’s hope the weather and the fishing improves shortly!

Please Note:
Waters closed to all forms of fishing on Fraser Island
– The eastern foreshore waters and waters within 400m out to sea from the eastern shore at low water, between 400m north of Waddy Point and 400 m South of Indian Head are closed from midday 1st August to midday 30th September every year - (fin fish only).

The beaches have been choppy, although the tailor have been on the chew. Late afternoon to early evening is the best time for fishing. Past Indian Head is a touch more sheltered and it’s where most fishos are heading for a feed, although not for long as the closure will put a stop to this as of August 1. The gutters around Happy Valley are also doing well for tailor, as well as dart and flathead.
