Report 30th Aug 06

Post by Brad » Wed Aug 30, 2006 8:27 pm

This week saw an ordinary week of weather so most of the fishing was left to the rivers and dams.

The old flathead has been a popular target these past few weeks with most anglers opting to chase them on soft plastics. The Berkley and Squidgy's have been favourites - fish them along the bottom all the way back to the boat.

There has also been a good number of big bream about and a lot of people have been catching them on soft plastics also, with the 2-inch Berkley Shrimp being a hot favourite.

Around the river mouth there's still good numbers of winter whiting about as well as a few tailor and school mackerel. Some salmon have been moving along the beaches. There's also a few tailor mixed in with them.

A few guys were able to get out recently for a local fishing trip and Brad Hartwig managed to land a nice 7kg coral trout.

Gary and I fished the Isis Impoundment for some bass last weekend and we got stuck into a few on Spinnerbaits and Jackalls. Gary landed a nice bass of 48cm.

The barra are becoming more active as the days heat up and the shallows is the place to start looking as these are the warmest areas. The favourite lures are the Bombers and Tropic Anglers.

Best breezes,
