Report Wed 13th Sept 06

13/9/06
Well, another week has passed us again. Last weekend saw a good bit of weather and the rest of the week turned for the worse. On those few good days most anglers decided to head offshore and some were well rewarded with big tuskfish, red emperor, snapper, trout, big grass sweetlip and some monster black king.
The inshore grounds also produced well for those in the smaller boats. Some good snapper, grunter and mackerel were caught.
Another hot topic during that good weather was Monduran - the barra were really on the chew with most people landing four or five fish per session. Gary and his son Nathan fished Monduran last Sunday and they landed four barra from 83cm to 88cm and they were reported to be in excellent condition. These fish were caught using Reidy's B52's and Tropic Anglers, cast and retrieved in the shallow bays. There's also been some big bass caught up there as well.
Back in the rivers, a bit of rain earlier in the week saw some local run-off. This got the bait moving, and the big ones just couldn't resist with some good salmon, grunter, big bream and flathead being caught. A few whiting have been on the move also. There are still the odd tailor and mackerel roaming about the river mouth. Trolling small diving lures and metal spoons should show results.
Best breezes,
