Report Wed 20th Sept 06

This week's hot topic is the barra at Lake Monduran. With the weather hotting up quickly the barra are on the bite. Last weekend saw a group of six anglers in three boats hit the dam. One and a half days of fishing, and we managed to hook a total of 43 barra, but landed only sixteen. We lost most due to straightened hooks and rings, and busted leaders and lines, along with heaps of jump-offs. But, hey - that's fishing! Most fish landed were 75cm to 80cm with a few at 90cm, and the best measuring 93cm. All were caught in the shallows in the backs of the bays on Tropic Anglers and B52's.
Nobody's had the chance to head offshore due to the weather, so it meant that most have stayed in the rivers. Reports of some good grunter, cod, flathead and the odd jack have been coming in, with some good whiting and bream also about. There is still the odd tailor about and some good schools of tuna and mackerel around the river mouths.
There have been some good schools of winter whiting about just outside the river mouth, when you can get out there.
Best breezes,
