Report Wed 4th Oct 06

This weekend we will finally have some reasonable weather, and being the end of the school holidays, most families will be able to enjoy a day out on the water.

The leads at the mouth of the Burnett River have been producing large numbers of quality mackerel during the past week. For best results you will need to cast Flasha lures in the 35-50gm range, or the Knight 40gr lures. If trolling, you should try Barra spoons or Smith jigs.

There have also been reports of good numbers of large sized flathead being landed at the mouth of the Burnett. The preferred lures would be Prawnstars, Berkley 3" Drop Shot Minnows and also Berkley 3" Wall Eye Minnows in the soft plastics range in various colours.

The port area has been producing the occasional salmon by live-baiting prawns and sprat in the deeper holes with weighted rigs.

With the warmer weather you should see increased catches of mangrove jack in the estuaries. This species is very aggressive and will take a number of different styles and colours of lures. Some of the popular lures are the Tilsans, Flatz Ratz and also Prawnstars.

Next weekend, on the 14th and 15th October, at Lake Monduran, will see Monduran Anglers and Stocking Association hold their annual Family Fishing Classic. This is a great weekend with plenty of prizes throughout the competition with the major prize being a boat, motor and trailer package valued at $8,000. Stocked Impoundment Permits and entry forms for this competition are available at Tackle World Bundaberg
