Report Wed 8th Nov 06

This week has seen some mixed weather - a little bit of rain, some wind and also some calm weather, so there has been a mix of species reported during the week.

Midweek saw the best weather, with a few boats heading offshore before the next spawning closure, and they were rewarded with big grass sweetlip, parrot, red jew, red emperor, some big coral trout, and a few other mixed species. The inshore grounds produced some good snapper and sweetlip. There seems to be some good schools of tuna and mackerel moving along the coast also.

The next Coral Reef Fin Fish closure is from 14th to 22nd November, then again from 14th to 22nd December. These closures are in all east coast waters north of Latitude 24° 50's.

A few anglers have been live-baiting in the river, scoring some jew, big jack and fingermark to 55cm. Poddy mullet and sprats have been the best baits to use. There's still the usual mix of bream, whiting and flathead about as well.

Monduran is still firing and some good barra to 110cm have been caught this week, with one angler landing eight for the day and losing four. Casting shallow diving lures into the lantana bushes is the go. B52's and Tropic Anglers have been the favourites again.

Best breezes,
