Report 19th Oct 05

Finally, it has rained, bringing joy, as we really needed it. Hopefully the rivers and dams will benefit from this. A bit of sweet water should also help the fishing.

A favourite at the moment has been the mackerel fishing along the coast, with all varieties of macks being caught. Spottie, school and the odd Spanish are there. Pillies and live baits are a good option on the anchor but many anglers have opted to troll for them. Try trolling Smith’s jigs, spoons and Flasha lures on paravanes to get them down a bit deeper, as these fish are hanging down deep.

In the rivers there are still heaps of flathead with many or most being oversized - to 70cm. There's been some huge bream to 1.4kg and some good grunter or javelin fish also, up to 3kg. There is still the odd salmon, jack, fingermark and even the odd jew. After the bit of rain we've had, the prawns and crabs should improve.

The dams are still fishing well with the impoundment producing bass, mostly in the 45-50cm mark. They are responding well to lures and plastics. In plastics, the Squidgys are a favourite, and in hard bodies, the Owner Miravibes and the Daiwa TD Vibes are the go.

The fishing up at Monduran has been awesome with most anglers landing an average of six barra a day. Most have been caught on Reidy's B52's, Bombers and Tropic Anglers.

Best breezes,
