Report 23rd September 05

Post by Brad » Fri Sep 23, 2005 6:51 am

Last weekend saw the full moon and Monduran was the spot to be. With cars and trailers as far as the eye could see, it was hard to find a free fishing spot. But, the barra were on the chew and most anglers we spoke to caught some. Gaz, Nathan and myself headed up the dam to try and nail a barra, and we did! We landed seven out of ten, with three jumping and throwing the hooks. They were caught on B52s and Tropic Anglers' new large floater. Lure colour didn't seem to matter.

There seems to be a few mackerel running the coast, both spotties and schoolies. Floating pillies or casting chrome lures in the river has found some big bream being taken along the walls.

Whiting are few and far between but those caught are elbow-slappers. Yabbies and worms should do the trip.

There is still heaps of flathead about the sand flats and rock walls. Small fish baits and plastics are the go. Grunter and salmon are still plentiful, but watch your sizes.

Please remember the reef fish closures are nearly due and the dates are following, with the first starting in the next few days.

27th September to 5th October
27th October to 4th November
25th November to 3rd December

If you'd like any further information on these closures, please call or drop in and see the boys at Salty's.

Best breezes,
