Weekly Report 23 Oct 07

Post by Brad » Tue Oct 23, 2007 7:46 pm

Finally, it looks like some upcoming light winds, which will have most of us excited at the chance of fishing the offshore grounds around Bundaberg. On the rare day in the past few weeks that offshore anglers have managed to get out, they have reported some schoolie and spanish mackeral, trout on livies, sweetlip and even a handful of squire. There has been plenty of mac tuna and northern blue tuna in close, and they have been very receptive to metal lures cast into feeding shoals. Creeks and rivers have provided some big queenfish on poppers. Most queenies have been taken at the mouths during the last of the tun-in tide. Flathead, bream and whiting have been patchy. There has been a few reports of good sized trumpeter in the Burrum River, Kolan River and also at Middle Creek. Jacks have been a little quiet but are bound to fire up in the warmer weather.

Bass have been taking poppers at dawn at the Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) while fish later in the day have been taken mostly of spinner baits. Monduran is settling down after another great Monduran Family Fishing Classic on the 13th and 14th October. Over 90 barra were weighed in for the weekend. With these warmer nights and hot, still days I would be starting to try some deeper diving lures in the deeper parts of the main channel and bays.
Till next time,
Ben Shorten
