Weekly Report 13 Sep 08

Post by Brad » Sat Sep 13, 2008 8:46 am

This past week has seen the signs of spring and the water temperatures have lifted accordingly. Hopefully it won’t be long until we see those steamy afternoons with thunderheads on the horizon, prime fishing time for estuary Jacks and impoundment Barra. Offshore fishing on the wider grounds has again been the most reliable fishing over the past few weeks. The northern gutter, herald patch and out on the shelf have been producing some excellent Red Emperor, Sweet lip, Snapper, Parrot, Cod and Hussar. If your like me and haven’t got the boat to get there, nows the time to hook up a few trips with our local charter operators.

Inshore reefs have still been a little patchy with odd pockets of squire, trumpeter, sweet lip, and stripeys. A few anglers have been jigging for yellowtail king and trevally with some success especially at the Karma and Barjon. Octo-Jigs or knife jigs from 80gm to 150gm have been working the best. Estuaries have been a little quiet as well with best fishing being done on the night high tides. Whiting, grunter and still the occasional bream have falling to large prawn and beach worm baits. There have been dart at Coonar and Kelly’s beaches. Again these have been late afternoon and early night fishing with pippies. Monduran and Isis are starting to awaken with reports of more and better fish every week. This coming week will be prime to go and do some homework at Monduran for the up-coming Family Competition on the 10th and 11th of October.
Hope to see you on the water soon.
Cheers … Ben Shorten
