Weekly Report 4 Jun 09

Post by Brad » Thu Jun 04, 2009 7:03 am

Well, this week has seen some ups and downs in the weather. With it being windy early in the week most of the fishing was done in the rivers and dams, with most of the rivers fishing very well. There weren't many species that weren't caught! Bream are about in good numbers and they are of top quality. Fishing the gravel beds and rock bars have been the favoured spots. There is still some good whiting being caught by fishing the afternoon tides and drifting the sand flats with fresh yabbies and prawns as bait. There are also still a few flathead mixed in with them. The lure fishermen are also being well rewarded with flathead, bream, cod, jack and even some good barra. The inshore fishing for snapper has been another hot topic. Mixed with them has been some good sweetlip. There is still plenty of mackerel being caught in close around the river mouths.

With the break of good weather between the bad, the offshore fishing has been great with most anglers catching their bag limit of coral trout, red emperor, sweetlip, hussar and plenty of other mixed reef species. Some of the offshore areas have also been producing some big black king and Spanish mackerel. The barra in Monduran have some on the chew. They are up in the shallows and soft plastics rolled around the weed beds have been scoring well. This weekend is looking like a good one for offshore as well, so enjoy it while it lasts.
Till next time,
