Weekly Report 11 Aug 09

Well, in the Bundaberg area, we have seen ups and downs in the weather recently, with the weekends being windy then typical working week calm weather. Those fortunate to have a day off or throw a sickie during the week had a chance to head offshore and most were rewarded with a feed of the usual mixed reefies, including hussar, sweetlip, parrot and coral trout. Those willing to put out a livie have caught dolphin fish, cobia and Spanish mackerel. The talk is still snapper from the inshore reefs with most opting to catch them of soft plastics, lightly weighted and fished slowly to the bottom, then hopped back to the boat.

The local rivers around Bundaberg are producing some great fishing with bream and grunter being a hot favourite target species. The areas around the bridge pylons have produced some top quality fish. Flathead and whiting have also been about in reasonable numbers. Winter whiting have shown a presence around the sand spit north of Burnett Heads. Try drifting the flats using yabbies, worms or strips of squid fished on the bottom. The barra in monduran have come back on the chew with the warmer northerly winds we have had and soft plastics have usually been their downfall. Bass have also been firing with small bladed lures being a hot favourite.
Till next time,
