Weekly Report 21 Oct 09

Well, the weather around the Bundaberg area hasn’t been overly kind to us again, so offshore fishing was near non-existent. A couple of days earlier in the week allowed a few anglers to get out onto some of the inshore grounds, with a few snapper/squire, sweetlip, stripeys and school mackerel being caught. The local river mouths are producing some fantastic light tackle fun using small lures and poppers with queenfish, pike, trevally and small school mackerel all being caught.

Some big flathead have been caught around the sand bars. Soft plastics in pink have been a favorite as well as trolling 5 to 10 feet diving lures, also in hot pink. Some of the rocky areas have been producing some good jack, fingermark and cod (please be aware of the new size and bag limits on cod species). The top reaches of the Burnett River have been producing some big grunter and nice whiting.

The bass have been on the chew in the Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory). Spinnerbaits and blades have been favourites for these. The barra in Monduran have been firing, and trolling has been producing some big fish to 130cm by using 15-20 feet divers, 12-16cm in lenght and in bright colours. Some big barra are still in the backs of the bays in 4-5 feet of water and slow rolling soft plastics have been the best.
Till next time, Tackle World Bundaberg Fishing Team
