Report Wed 1st Feb 06

1/2/06
A south-east wind change during the week has improved the saltwater fishing. It’s certainly a change from the hot, dry northerly winds.

The rivers are producing some top quality fish. Reports of some big grunter to 3kg have been told. These fish have been taken on sprats, either dead or alive. There is still a swag of huge bream about. A few keen lure fishermen have been doing very well with good numbers of bream on plastics around the rocks and pontoons. Berkley 3 inch Drop Shots are the go. Other species have been salmon, whiting and some nice flathead.

Reef fishing has been slow due to strong winds, but there's still been a few mackerel about the river mouth.

The freshwater scene has been a bit slow due to the south-east change - it somehow slows the fish down compared to the northerlies. Those persistent enough have caught a few bass and the odd barra.

Best breezes,
Tim Mulhall
