Weekly Report 11 Aug 10

Well, we have had a mixed week of weather in the local Bundaberg area – moderate winds and even some rain in some parts. The winds have kept most of the offshore anglers at home, so this should be a good time to do some gear maintenance. For those who wanted to try their luck, most have had to rely on the rivers to produce a feed. There has been some fantastic fish caught in the Burnett River over the past week. If you were keen enough to brave the winds and rain you would have been well rewarded.

Bream and salmon have been the most talked-about species. The bream have been caught mainly on soft plastics fished along the rock walls, while the salmon have been throughout the river with Vibe lures being a big hit. For the bait fishos, live prawns and sprats have been the hot favourites. There is still a good number of flathead around the sand flats so try tempting them by jigging soft plastics and small diving Minnows in pink colours. The local river mouths are producing some small tailor and a good number of school mackerel, and floating pilchards or trolling spoons or Flash lures has been the best method.

The bass are schooled up in the local impoundments, so casting blades, Vibes and soft plastics in around the deep drop-offs has produced some great bass. For those who like trolling using small deep divers in purple colours are favourites. A few barra have come on the chew in Lake Monduran with soft plastics being favourites. The barra are in the shallows and are very spooky, so a quiet approach is needed.
