Weekly Report 12 Aug 11

Post by Brad » Fri Aug 12, 2011 8:06 am

Finally, we have seen a week of good fishing weather around Bundaberg. This meant a lot of boats could head offshore, and with the build-up to the full moon over the last weekend, this meant the fish were on the chew. With most of the offshore reefs and gutters fishing well, most anglers landed some big reds, coral trout, sweetlip and some big tuskfish as well. Big snapper have also been caught so make the most of this until the 1st September, as this is when the snapper rules change and we’ll have new limits to abide by. These rules will be a new bag limit of four snapper per person in possession, with one of the four allowed to be over 70cm. The other three must be between 35cm and 70cm.

There is still a good number of pelagics about such as cobia, mackerel, tuna and trevally. The local rivers are still producing some fantastic fishing with plenty of bream, whiting and flathead, as well as some blue salmon and the odd king salmon. There are still some big grunter about, with live prawns being the best baits. The river mouths have been producing some small mackeral and tailor by trolling small to medium diving lures in any baitfish or chrome patterns. The Burnett River is also still producing a good number of crabs as well as plenty of prawns.
