Weekly Repport 7 Sep 11

Well, the winds around the local Bundaberg area just won’t let up for the offshore fishing, so it has been a good time to do maintenance on the boats that usually head offshore. The river fishing however, has been red hot with most or nearly all of the fish being caught on lures. There have been some big bream along the rock walls in the Burnett River. Again, most of them have been caught on lures such as soft plastics and little deep diving cranks such as the Strada Quicka.

The river mouths and beaches are holding large amounts of flathead, with soft plastics doing the damage. Some of the flathead are oversize, so they must be released as they have a maximum size of 75cm. There is still excellent catches of big barra being reported from the Burnett, as well as cod, jew and king salmon, right from the mouth up to the town reach. Lures seem to be the best method with the new Thready Busters and Tranzams being hot favourites. There is still a fair amount of prawns about so get the cast net out and have a go, and with a few crabs still about, this will also be a good windy weather option.
Till next time, Tim Mulhall
