Weekly Report 30 Dec 11

Post by Brad » Fri Dec 30, 2011 4:54 pm

Well, Christmas has been and gone, and I hope you all got a new rod and reel from Santa. Earlier in the week saw a spell of good weather around the Bundaberg area for offshore boaties. It sure was good to see that calm weather after such a long time. The boats that went wide were well rewarded, so there were some beaut catches of big red emperor, coral trout, sweetlip and a good bag of the usual mixed reef species. A few of the offshore reefs produced a spanish mackerel bite and first light seemed to be the bite time. A few of the inshore reefs produced a good feed as well.

The Burnett River is fishing well still, even though it is running a bit dirty due to local runn-off and big tides. Some big bream have been about with soft plastics and Blade lures being the best way to target them. Some big flathead and grunter have also been been showing up. Some of the rock bars and walls have been holding good numbers of big jacks with live baits being the way to go, with poddy mullet being the best.

The fresh has flushed out some mud crabs and also, it won’t be long till we see a good lot of prawns as the river is full of small prawns at the moment. Most of them are just way too small to stay in the cast net, so it won’t be too long until we can catch a feed. Till next time, Tim Mulhall
