Weekly Report 19 Feb 12

Post by Brad » Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:05 pm

Well we struck a good bit of weather over the weekend and a lot of boats headed offshore. The fishing was a bit tough but those who put in the time and effort caught their share of fish. Some big red emperor were caught around the outer reefs as well as some good coral trout, ret throat sweetlip, parrot and the usual mixed bag of hussar and stripeys. Some of the wrecks and bombies held a few big cobia and spanish mackerel which were best taken on deep diving lures such as Rapala XRap 30”s. Some of the inner reefs produced some sweetlip, grunter and red jew.

The rivers are starting to salt back up after the last fresh flush producing some great fishing. Some big barra, cod, jack and still some king threadfin salmon have all been taken on lures and plastics working the deeper holes. Some of the river mouths and beaches have been producing top catches of whiting, flathead and dart with yabbies and prawn being best baits. Mud crabs have been on the move throughout most rivers and these crabs have been choc-a-block full. Some prawns are making their way back up the creeks and it will only get better come next full moon.
Till next time, Tim Mulhall
