Well, the fishing around Bundaberg has been fantastic of late, with red hot fishing both offshore and in the estuaries. On the good days for offshore fishing, the catches have been awesome. Some excellent red emperor have been caught out in 60 to 80 metres of water on mullet fillets. Some cracker coral trout have been caught on live baits around the bombies and gutters as well as the mixed bag of sweeties, hussar and tuskfish.

We have also seen a great run of spanish mackerel around any of the reefy areas, and trolling big baits such as bonito, gar and wolf herring have been the best for a big spanish. The Cochrane Artificial Reef has been producing some nice snapper and grunter as well as some school mackerel. The local rivers have been fishing well with the waters cleaning up nicely and the fishing moving back up river. Some monster bream have been taken along the rock walls in the Burnett, and some big grunter have also been caught on mullet strips and large prawns.

The sand flats have been producing some quality flathead, mainly on lures with hot pink being a favourite flathead colour. There have been some big jew, cod and an odd jack being caught in the deeper holes, mainly on large prawns, with a few fish being taken on soft plastics. Some big king salmon have also been taken on Blades and Tranzams.
Good fishing,
Tim Mulhall
