Happy New Year to all from the team at Tackle World Bundaberg. It sure has been a windy start to the new year, so there has been no offshore fishing done so far. The rivers, creeks and dams, however, are fishing well. Most of the local rivers and creeks have been producing some red hot jack fishing on both live baits and lures, and plenty of the jacks have been over 50cm. The Prawnstar lure has been the favourite. We’re still catching plenty of flathead around the sand flats and they’re being taken on Strada lures.Plenty of other species have been caught such as grunter, cod, salmon (king) and even some big fingermark, with live-baiting being a preferred method.

The local beaches have had a run of whiting, dart and some mulloway jew with beach worms being the “go to” bait. Another option during the windy period is to hit the Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) and chase some bass. Bass to 50cm have been very common. Fishing schools of bass in the main basin of the dam is the spot to be, jigging them on Blades and soft plastics with sliders being the hot favourite plastic. Lake Monduran is producing a great barra bite with most bays producing good numbers of small barra from 50 to 70cm and up to ten barra per session. Jackall Squirrels have been the best lure.
Till next time,
Tim Mulhall
