Report Tues 21st Mar 06

Post by Brad » Wed Mar 22, 2006 5:54 am

As we say every week lately, there are strong winds forecast for this weekend. We have not had any reports of reef catches because of the run of bad weather, but the last reports we did receive were of mackerel, parrot, sweetlip and red emperor being caught on the inshore reefs.

For the estuary fishermen, we have finally had reports of good sized whiting being caught in the middle reaches of the Burnett River. There have also been some quality mangrove jack, trumpeter and bream being caught in the estuaries. In our local area, quantities of large prawns are there if you are prepared to spend some time.

Gary and John had a day’s fishing this week at Lake Monduran but due to a drop in water temperature they found it very difficult to land the elusive barra. With this fall in temperatures try targeting the shallow bays with shallow diving lures. Hopefully a week of sunshine will raise the temperature and the barra should again fire up.

Matt spent last weekend at the Cania Dam Annual Fishing Competition. Over 300 anglers registered in the comp for the two days. There were prize categories for bass, golden perch, gar, spangled perch, silver perch and jewfish (eel-tail catfish). All of these species were caught, with anglers receiving great prizes, as well as many lucky draws throughout the weekend. A great time was had by all, even though it was fairly windy all weekend.

Best breezes,
Jenny Peardon
