Weekly Report 8 Nov 13

Post by Brad » Fri Nov 08, 2013 12:42 pm

Well, first things first for the Bundaberg fish report this week - the barramundi closure is now in place. This started at midday on 1st November and means that you cannot target or take a barramundi from any creek, river or estuary. The only exception is stocked dams such as Lake Monduran. There was no reef fishing earlier in the week due to the Coral Reef Finfish closure which finished on the 4th. The fishery is now open and all we need is some good weather.

Mangrove jacks seem to be the target species at the moment with most rivers fishing really well. Jack to 55cm have been very common. Live-baiting the holes or hopping Jackall Tranzam lures have been the go. Most of the sand bars and sand flats have been producing whiting and flathead on the run-in tide. There is still a good number of bream and grunter about as well as some blue and king salmon. Some of the coastal beaches have been fishing well, if you're keen to walk the kilometres, with some fantastic whiting, dart and some good sized flathead.

Lake Monduran barra are on the chew which is a great sign since the river barra closure is now in place. The barra at Monduran are from 60 to 80cms at the present time and are in most of the major hot spots. Six to eight barra per session has been common, with LuckyCraft and Jackall lures being favourites.
