Weekly Report 9 Dec 13

Post by Brad » Mon Dec 09, 2013 2:13 pm

The forecast for the Bundaberg area for this weekend is predicted to be 15-20 knot winds, so offshore fishing will be out. However, all the estuary systems should be firing with great reports of mangrove jack being caught in the upper reaches of many systems in amongst the mangroves and rock bars.

Baffle Creek has been good for the bread and butter species - flathead, bream and whiting on the run-in tides early of a morning. These seem to be the best tides and times, however with the full moon approaching, night time sessions can be excellent. You will find the bigger 30cm and up to 40cm whiting come out at night time on freshly pumped yabbies. Prawn baits will also work well.

Reports from the Elliott River are good too, especially the whiting at night time sitting out from the entrances to the little creeks on the run-in tides. Flathead are showing up also in good numbers and size. Once again, yabbies are good baits and so are small sprats, hardy heads and prawns if you can get some decent sized ones. Mangrove jacks in the upper reaches during the day on vibrant coloured suspending lures.

The Coonarr entrance is great on early calm mornings to throw some soft plastics from the beach for those good-sized flathead that have been around. Look for those small bait fish skipping on top of the water. Bigger predators such as flathead will be chasing them. If your soft plastics are being worked correctly, then it's happy days. Good fishing, Brett Robinson
