Weekly Report 13 Dec 13

Well, the weeks just keep on zipping by and the fishing around the Bundaberg area has been great. Offshore has been limited due to strong winds, however a few early mornings you could get out and fish around the river mouths for school mackerel. Floating pillies and/or trolling spoon lures has been a good way to catch a few schoolies. There are also a few tuna, trevally and queenfish getting about if you're keen for some sports fishing.

Further up the river there are plenty of flathead about with most of the sand bars producing flatties. Soft plastics have been a favourite way to catch a few with Berkly Gulp or Squidgy Wriggle plastics being the favourites. There are also plenty of whiting around the sand flats as well. Worms and peeled prawns have been the best baits. The rock walls are still holding some good catches of bream, and also a lot of mulloway jew have been caught by targeting bream, but please be aware that the legal size of a mulloway jew is 75cm minimum.

Some of the deeper holes are producing big mangrove jack, cod and grunter. Live-baiting with poddy mullet or prawns is the way to go. There are still a few blue and king salmon about in most of the rivers and most are being caught on Blade lures. It's time to dust off the crab pots as there are a few mud crabs about and most people are getting a good feed of muddies. Mullet heads seem to be the bait. Please remember to mark and label crab pots correctly.
