Weekly Report 12 Jan 14

Post by Brad » Sun Jan 12, 2014 10:36 am

A small break in the weather earlier this week saw a few of the bigger boats heading offshore from Bundaberg. Most were well rewarded with quality fish including some beaut red emperor, coral trout, tuskies and plenty of Spanish mackerel. Most of the bigger reef fish have been caught on large flesh boats and the Spanish mackerel have been caught on lures trolled at 6 to 8 knots. Halco Laser Pro's are the hot favourite lures.

All of the local rivers and creeks are fishing well with all systems producing great catches of big grunter. Most of the grunter have been caught on soft plastics with Berkley Gulps being the best. The Kolan River is producing plenty of whiting and flathead around the river mouth, and a few jack and salmon up the creek.

The Burnett River is also fishing well with plenty of queenfish and trevally around the mouth. There are plenty of flathead, whiting and grunter throughout the upper reaches of the river. Some of the deeper holes are producing jack, cod and threadfin salmon.

The Elliott River has produced plenty of whiting and flathead through the system. The upper reaches have also had some jacks being caught on lures, and Luckycraft lures have been the gun lures.
