Weekly Report 18 Jan 14

Post by Brad » Sat Jan 18, 2014 1:58 pm

Once again the offshore fishing around Bundaberg has been limited due to bad weather. All fishing has been confined to river, creeks and dams. Most systems are
fishing really well and most of the sand flats have produced big whiting on the run-in tide, and small live prawns seem to be the top bait. There have been plenty of flathead around the sand flats as well, but the most targeted species has been the grunter - but spotted and barred.

They have been thick and are in all systems. Most anglers have been targeting them on soft plastics - Berkley Gulp in 4 and 5 inch rigged on 1/4oz 2/0 jigheads and fish them slow along the bottom. The deeper holes are still producing big cod, jack, fingermark and salmon. Live-baiting is the go.Some of our local beaches have started to produce some large mulloway jew. We haven't seen a lot of them here but they sure are welcome. The big jew have been caught by fishing the beaches from early evening and into the dark, fishing big baits such as whole squid or mullet fillets, then hang on! Seems to be plenty of mud crabs about for those who have put in the effort as well. Tim Mulhall
