Weekly Report 11 Apr 14

Post by Brad » Fri Apr 11, 2014 8:19 am

Over the past week or so the winds around the Bundaberg area have been up and down. Last weekend there were good reports of red emperor, sweetlip, parrot and
cod caught on the outer reefs. As well there were school, spotted and spanish mackerel being caught on all local reefs with most anglers managing the land their bag limits.

The Burnett River is still fishing well. The water has cleaned up and the lure fishermen have caught some really nice fingermark, jack, grunter, threadfin salmon and barra by trolling deep diving lures and casting large soft plastics around the rock walls down around the mouth of the river. The anglers doing the best are the ones using their side-imaging units to locate the ledges and structure under the water, then targeting the fish that way.

Good amounts of prawns are being cast-netted in the Burnett with the deeper holes holding better numbers. There are some prawns just starting off Woodgate, so let's hope it's will be similar to the big prawn season we had last year. The local boys have had fun on the bass surface fishing with both morning and afternoon sessions being the best time as the wind usually drops out making it easier to work your lures. One of the best performing topwater lures this week was the Strada Zeida 85mm in all colours.
