Report 15/12/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Dec 18, 2015 1:12 pm

The fishing around the Bundaberg area has still been great. The offshore grounds have been fishing well when the weather permits. Some coral trout and the odd big red emperor have been caught. Some big snapper have also made their presence felt along with some sweetlip, parrot and hussar to fill the ice box. Let’s hope we get a run of good weather up the Christmas.

The local rivers and creeks are all fishing well with the river mouths producing mackerel and queenfish. Most of the sand flats have been holding good numbers of flathead. I did hear good reports from the Kolan where some nice grunter and heaps of flathead were caught up on the shallows, all on soft plastics.

There is still good numbers of summer and northern whiting and some nice bream being caught by anglers who have been bait fishing.

Mangrove jack are well and truly on the chew. All the local rivers and creeks have fired up this past week. Tackle World Bundaberg team member, Tim had a good session last Sunday, landing some really nice jack in the deeper holes in the Baffle. The hot lures were Tranzams, Squirrels and Prawnstars, all producing that day.

On the fresh water scene Lake Gregory if producing a red hot bass bite caught on surface popping early morning and then spinnerbaiting around the weed edges as the day warms up. Bass up to 50cm have been boated this week, which are awesome fun on light gear.

Lake Monduran is also fishing well for barramundi. The barra seem to bite best after a few days of constant wind direction. Fishing the points and backs of bays with wind pushing into them should do the trick. Try casting large 6” to 8” soft plastics around the weed edges, and the good old Jackall Squirrel still is producing well cast around the many sunken snags in the fantastic dam.

Just finally, all the staff from tackle World Bundaberg wish everyone a Happy Christmas. Be safe on the water and we all look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
