Report 24/3/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Mar 25, 2016 11:18 am

It’s nearly that time of the year where the Easter Bunny will be out and about. This is also the start of two weeks of school holidays. This is always a magic time to get away either camping or just spending some quality time on the water with your family.

Wasn’t it awesome to finally get some good weather last weekend? By the amount of boat trailers at Burnett Heads last Saturday morning it seemed like everyone had the same idea.

It’s early days yet, but let’s hope the weather backs off over the Easter break, and at this stage it’s not looking too bad.

The Burnett River is fishing fantastic. The water has cleaned up and the fish seem to be on the bite. There has been good numbers of yellowfin and black bream back in the Burnett. The bream are smashing all the jelly prawns and bait fish around most of the rock walls.
As well as bream the whiting, flathead and grunter are all very active, providing lots of action for the whole family.

The other systems in our area like the Kolan and Elliott have also been fishing well. Easter is always a magic time to camp at Miara Caravan Park. Over the past few years the mud crabs have been on over Easter and this year’s shaping up to be the same. Fishing-wise, species like bream, whiting and flathead have been caught around the many sand bars, and the odd mangrove jack has been smashing live baits and soft plastics further upstream.

All the impoundments in our region will be busy over the break. Lake Waruma has been very popular with good numbers of red claw and some nice bass and spangled perch caught last week.

Lake Cania has been alive with bass and saratoga with some anglers having some excellent sessions on surface lures early and late, then Bassman Spinner baits working a treat throughout the day.

Closer to home, Lake Gregory is still fishing fantastic for Australian bass, and Lake Monduran has seen barra of all sizes caught this week from 35cm to 105cm.

From everyone at Tackle World Bundy, have a happy and safe Easter and we hope to see you on the water somewhere around Bundy this weekend.
